Rovio today announced that Angry Birds will be landing on
Facebook next month. The news comes in the form of a very simple but clever
marketing move: a Facebook Event titled “Angry Birds coming to Facebook!” The
event is scheduled for between 6:00 PM EST and 9:00 PM EST this Valentine’s Day
(February 14, 2012).
Here’s the event’s description:
Squawk! Everyone’s favorite furious fowl, Angry Birds, is
coming to Facebook!
Nothing says “Happy Valentine’s Day” like competitive
pig-popping among friends!
Join in on the fun - mark this date on your calendars, and
let’s make this the biggest Facebook Event ever!

tuned for more details!
The event already has over 2,000 people who have RSVP’d they
are going. This will undoubtedly grow as the event and video (embedded above)
are encouraging Facebook users to invite their friends.
Angry Birds has been expected to arrive on Facebook for
almost a year. Back in March 2011, a rumor suggested the Facebook edition will
be more “collaborative” and have “new aspects” that “just haven’t been
experienced in any other platform.” Furthermore, “the pigs will have a more
prominent role.”
At the time, Rovio wanted you to Like the game on Facebook
so that you can “be the first to hear the news” and “gain access to exclusive
content.” The Facebook Page then had just over 1 million Facebook Likes. Now it
has 12.95 million.
It’s not clear if Rovio delayed the Facebook game because it
still wanted to tweak things or if it just wanted to first build a bigger
following on the platform before launch. I personally think it was a little bit
of both.
