Samsung Galaxy Beam: Mediocre specs, but a good projector

The new Samsung Galaxy Beam, comes with a built-in Texas Instruments DLP pico projector , 1GHz dual-core NovaThor CPU with 768MB RAM, a 4-inch WVGA TFT display and a 5-megapixel rear-facing shooter with 720p video capture and 8GB storage. Looking at the specs this smartphone is not so different from the Galaxy S Advance. Although the exteriors of the two are very much different, the internal specs say another story. In a time where advanced quad core, powerful smartphones compete for the market, the new Beam looks like an outdated piece of hardware, except for its projector. An overly outdated OS, a 2010-era display and...

"We want to pioneer a category," Brendan Eich, who is Mozilla's chief technology officer, told at the world's biggest mobile fair in Barcelona. "We see the mobile world...

Google vs. Microsoft: Google’s Days Numbered?

“Google it!” said millions of people around the globe. . For the past few years Google has become a synonym for ‘search’ and they’ve been clinging to the throne for so many years, but now as Microsoft’s latest search engine Bing has slowly started to get an advanced search algorithm, many users including us, at Molten Transistor, are wondering how long Google will remain the Search-king? Three features that make us go for Bing. Visual Search One of Bing’s major advantage is the Visual Search feature. While it’s definitely still in beta (and not really beta in the Google sense) what it can do is rather impressive. For...

Skyrim: Largest Battle (10 Alduin and all 8 Dragon Priests)

We at Molten Transistor tried a Skyrim experiment by summoning ten Alduins and all eight Dragon Priests at once. Well, as you know one dragon priest alone would be tough enough, let alone all eight of them with ten Alduins. The game’s engine and graphics did not disappoint us, the moment these beasts were unleashed the landscape and weather in Skyrim became grim and violent, leaving us helpless even with god mode on. And not to forget the combined meteor showers summoned by all TEN Alduins, how much more awesome can a game get?We had the most fun we could have had and experienced the Skyrim magnificence....

Foodies: Kochi Street Menu

From spicy pav bhajji’s, aloo paratha to grilled alfama’s and flavorful masala dosas , Kochi is certainly NOT lagging behind in any typical foodies appetite. When it comes to making the hottest and tastiest aloo paratha’s, none can rule over Ernakulam’s favorite dabba at Broadway, and when it comes to the best Shawarma or grilled chicken, Majlis at Edapally is indeed the winner. Now what set’s apart Majlis is the ratio of meat to vegetable in their shawarma’s, in which the meat is higher and obviously much more appealing for shawarma lovers around the city. Places like Real Arabia and Street Menu at MG Road have also won the hearts...

KFC Fiery Grilled: Fiery Enough to Tickle Your Senses?

Ever since KFC started their new Fiery Grilled Chicken in their Kochi Outlets, there has been a growing buzz around KFC-fans about it. And as expected it did not disappoint many of the customers, ofcourse, the ones who are a bit sensitive to heat and spices found it a bit too overwhelming. The Fiery Grilled differs from the crispy as they are not covered in sauce, but marinated in pepper and other spices and then grilled. Again managed to stand-up to Colonel Sander’s standards as they provided us with something that is truly Finger Lickin’ Goo...

Google Fights For The Throne

Ever since Facebook and Twitter got the spotlight in the social world, Google has been trying it’s best to fight off the competition with some stupid decisions, which included Wave, Google Buzz and now recently Google+. Google has been putting forward some pretty tricky tactics to promote it; like overhauling its search results to include only results from Google+, while omitting facebook and twitter. This coerces users into being members of Google+ if they want their friends to find them in Google search.  This move has been openly criticized by twitter and even a ‘Don’t be evil’ bookmarklet directed towards Google was released...

Brown Fat: Burn your Fat with Fat

Fat that burns fat?  It is brown fat, actually brown in color, and its great appeal is that it burns calories like a furnace. A new study finds that one form of it, which is turned on when people get cold, sucks fat out of the rest of the body to fuel itself. Another new study finds that a second form of brown fat can be created from ordinary white fat by exercise. Of course, researchers say, they are not blind to the implications of their work. If they could turn on brown fat in people without putting them in cold rooms or making them exercise night and day, they might have a terrific weight loss treatment. And companies are getting to work. But Dr. André Carpentier, an endocrinologist at the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec and lead author of one of the new papers, notes...

SCMS COLLEGE: GPC Gets New Rolls Royce, Students Get Run-down Classrooms And Acres Of Futile Rubber Trees.

A few weeks ago SCMS Chairman Dr.Nayar purchased a new Rolls Royce to add on to his existing collection of expensive cars. Seeing the old man’s glam and style, one would expect his institution to have the best facilities. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The SSET Campus located at Karukutty  houses worn-out prehistoric classrooms, with corridors that resemble the dead ambience of a Govt. Hospital. Not to mention the heavy-metallic chairs that look like something straight out of a prison. While all this is true, the ‘Business Masterminds’ behind SCMS promote their college as if it is next only to Oxford and Cambridge. Well, it...

The new Siri alternative for iPhones and Android?

When the iPhone 4S was released one of its most of hyped features was “Siri” – The Personal Assistant with natural language processing. Users of other versions of iPhone were disappointed because Siri was exclusive to iPhone 4S. Android users too felt left out as Android lacked such a feature. But it seems Apple finally has some true competition out in the market.  Evi, well an amazing piece of artificial intelligence tops off Siri in numerous ways. For starters, Siri is not so good at answering stuff that’s not about US. So Evi might just be Siri for the rest of the world, since it can be used on all versions of iPhone and Android...

Weight Loss or Fat Loss: The Right Choice?

With the growing need for well-toned abs and biceps, the craving for weight-loss has created a wild frenzy around the world. But is it WEIGHT that is actually giving us those muffin-tops and fat bellies? Well it is true that your extra bag hanging out from your abdomen does contribute to your weight, but weight is not the villain here. It is the FAT, that  we should try to burn off. The current trend of starving yourself till you turn into one of those thin Egyptian mummies is absolutely not the right approach. In fact eating smaller meals throughout the day(about 6 small-meals a day instead of 3 large meals) is better...

The ‘Epic Sound’ Factor: How To Make A Movie Unforgettable?

Ever wondered how movies like Inception, The Lord of The Rings or Nolan’s Dark Knight managed to ring in our minds even after we were out of the movies? The answer is efficient Sound Editing and Mixing; while watching a movie or once you’re out, something that gives us the chills of ‘awesomeness’ most of the time is the sound effects and the background score used in the movie.  So it is of utmost importance that the music and sound effects used for a movie is optimal, else how much ever appealing the acting is or visual effects are, the movie will simply lack the ‘wow’ factor. Often perfect sound mixing is ignored even by...

Camera Tripod Stands: Necessary for amateur short-film makers?

Amateur filmmakers usually have their minds set on using a camera tripod stand  for taking very professional shots with minimum distortion. That may not always be the case, and sometimes losing the tripod makes for better shots. Tripods are often used for achieving shots with a minimum ‘shake’ or distortion, and when a director does not have to worry about this, his creativity may run amok and he may go for twisted and unique camera angles which would have been impossible to achieve without a stand. If chosen wisely, then these angles would not pose a problem, but amateurs often tend to get too excited with...
